Archer Towers are the only defensive item that can be reused. If they are not destroyed in battle you can use them over and over. I only build traps/abatis/logs/trebs for the newbie quest, then demolish them and get my resources back simple smile The best defensive unit in Evony is the Archer Tower Then I can fill their spaces with more archer towers.

I actually laugh when I see someone with 2000 abatis because an abatis is only useful at stopping calvary and cataphracts while 2000 archer towers would be able to shoot ANYTHING attacking their city.

    I disagree with some of this logic.
    First, you cant replace 2000 abatis with 200 archer towers, they take up more space. While I agree that archer towers are the best defence, eliminating all ground traps reduces the effectiveness of the archer towers. Minimal traps and abatis (300-500 each) help to slow down the enemy, increasing the number of rounds so that the archers can take more shots.
    Rollinglogs are useless.

    I disagree with this logic as well. You need a many layered wall + troops. A person with 1k traps, 2k abatis 15k ATs some rollers and DTs have a better chance at succeeding in defending against various troops rather than someone who has just ATs.

    Adding these things to the wall allows for more rounds for your ATs and your ground troops to hit the enemy.

    I disagree also. A good layer of Wall Defences is just as important as a layer with a wave of archers.

    The abatis doesnt just stop the horses it also causes the infantry to have to stop for an extra round to climb over, so while it wont kill infantry it does give your archers an extra shot to kill em.

    You’re talking about a beacon tower not an archer tower.

    You can only have one beacon tower in your city and you can upgrade it all the way to level 10 if you want. (you really only need it around level 8)

    Archer Towers are a part of your walls. Click on your walls and then you have the option to build traps, abatis, archer towers, rolling logs, and defensive trebuchets.

    Your a mug only building AT’s. If you only have AT’s and someone attacks you with cav and phract they will blow your AT’s away with minimul losses (depending on their HBR, Medicine, MT, IW levels.)

    With small number of traps and abatis it stops this from happening.

    Building only ATs is really not sensible. Personally i suggest about 1-2k traps,1-2k abatis. the rst you can fill it up with ATs. The traps and abatis will slow down the enemy troops and give your ATs an extra round to shoot and try to take down as many of the enemy troops as possible before they even get in range to attack. Of course 1 trap 1 abatis(whichever one) will slow down the enemies troops but having a little more is better. As to slow them down even more and kill some of course 😀

    Traps and abatis dont “hold up” the enemy. They increase the start range of the battle to 5200 yards. This is both good and bad. The range makes your layers hit the enemy 1 at a time and get destroyed individually. However the same is for the attacker, it stretches out the attack layers so they hit one by one.

    Guys really? archers towers are completly useless unless the walls are layered properly… and as for 1 trap 1 abatis like people are saying… its not hard to take 1 out before a major wave hits. the purpose of them is to increase the range in battle which causes less casualties to you i recommend at leas 2k traps and abatis because other wise its just to easy to take them out before the major wave hits… unless of course the main wave is mechs… in which case you need to take down all trabs and abatis and pray for the best.

    Small numbers of trap and aba can be wiped easily by 100 cav/100 scout attacks without triggering towers. Once Traps are wiped caph smack will wreak havok on your defenses and troops. I laugh louder when I see 200 traps than I do when I see 2000.

    I had 15k ATs
    10k scout 90k cavalry attacked me
    I lost
    It would’ve put a bigger dent in the attacking wave if I’d had a few abatis.

    It’s certainly best to have mainly ATs and a few of the rest. I keep 1 treb and rolling log, just to add a couple layers, even if they die quickly when you spam them.
